Margaret Mitchell and Atlanta

Margaret Mitchell was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1900. Her father was a prominent lawyer and her mother was a socialite. Mitchell grew up in a wealthy and privileged home, but she was also exposed to the hardships of poverty and war. The Civil War had a profound impact on Atlanta, and Mitchell's family was no exception.

In Soaring Earth, Mitchell writes about her childhood in Atlanta and her experiences during the Civil War. She describes the city's destruction and the suffering of its people. She also writes about her own family's struggles during this time.

The Writing of Gone with the Wind

After the war, Mitchell moved to New York City to pursue a career in journalism. However, she soon returned to Atlanta and began writing Gone with the Wind. The novel was published in 1936 and became an instant bestseller. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1937.

In Soaring Earth, Mitchell provides insights into the writing of Gone with the Wind. She describes her research process and her struggles to get the novel published. She also writes about the impact of the novel on her life.

The Legacy of Margaret Mitchell

Margaret Mitchell died in 1949 at the age of 49. She is considered one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century. Gone with the Wind is still one of the most popular novels in the world.

In Soaring Earth, Mitchell provides a glimpse into her life and her work. The memoir is a valuable resource for anyone interested in Mitchell or in the history of Atlanta and the Civil War.
