Early life and career

Roberto Clemente was born on August 18, 1934, in Carolina, Puerto Rico. He began playing baseball at a young age and quickly developed into a gifted athlete. He signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1954 and made his Major League debut with the Pirates the following year.

Clemente quickly established himself as one of the best outfielders in baseball. He had a strong arm and a quick release, and he was able to cover a lot of ground in the outfield. He was also a gifted hitter, and he led the National League in batting in 1961.

Clemente died tragically in a plane crash on December 31, 1972. He was delivering aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua when the plane he was on crashed into the ocean. Clemente was only 38 years old.
